IEEE-CERN Partnership Transforms

Entrepreneur Kendall Ananyi leveraged his extensive knowledge of computers and engineering to launch Tizeti, a startup that uses solar-powered towers to deliver affordable Wi-Fi connections to urban areas in Nigeria. In addition to serving as the company’s CEO, Kendall Ananyi maintains membership with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

IEEE has entered into a partnership agreement with the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) to make IEEE articles free and instantly available for the public to read. CERN is a Geneva-based research center that operates the largest particle physics research lab in the world. The open-access publish and read agreement will allow CERN correspondents and authors to publish their open-access articles in all IEEE journals. This agreement creates a new way for CERN researchers to publish the results of their studies as open-access documents.

On the side of IEEE, the agreement provides reading access to IEEE’s more than 5 million documents archived in the Xplore Digital Library. It also creates an innovative way for IEEE to share its work with the global research community for the advancement of engineering and technologies that support economic growth. The public can access IEEE’s documents, which include IEEE standards, scientific journals, and conference proceedings.

Y Combinator Program Funds Startups

Kendall Ananyi co-founded Tizeti in 2012 and currently serves as the company’s CEO. He completed his master’s in electrical and electronic engineering at the University of Victoria. Subsequently, Kendall Ananyi attended the Y Combinator (YC) program in 2017.

Founded in 2005, Y Combinator is a Silicon Valley-based tech incubator that has funded more than 3,000 startups through its batch activities. It provides startups with technical and financial support during the early stages of their project.

The three-month program is held in the Bay Area, where the YC team works with startup founders to develop their ideas and help them create the best pitch for future investors. At the end of the program, startup founders get the chance to present their work to audiences and investors on Demo Day. The incubator accepts applications for its funding cycles twice a year. However, as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, the YC batch activities are currently being conducted remotely.
